A section of the media commentariat continues to delight in Rory Stewart’s incorrect prediction of the US election result on The Rest Is Politics, the hit podcast he presents with TNE editor-at-large Alastair Campbell.
“Rory Stewart’s pre-election hubris about the result and, worse, the way he blamed himself for underestimating how awful Republican voters could be… will probably have zero consequences for ‘business’,” sniffed one pundit.
“The Rest is Politics duo are clever and entertaining but they talk for only the so-called progressive side of politics. They don’t build bridges or understanding – they just tell people what they want to hear. And sadly that’s largely what punters want.”
Who is this advocate for escaping your own silo by including other voices with different opinions? None other than Tim Montgomerie, a founder of the Conservative Home and Unherd websites, both solely dedicated to promoting opinion from Britain’s right wing – the so-called unprogressive side of politics.
Neither build bridges or understanding – they just tell people what they want to hear. And sadly that’s largely what punters want.
