Labour ex-MP: Why I’m GB News’s number one guest

Lloyd Russell-Moyle has explained why he's been interviewed more than any one else this year on the hard right channel

Earlier this week Rats in a Sack crunched the numbers and found an unlikely character was GB News’ most-often booked interviewee on its primetime chat shows so far this year.

Lloyd Russell-Moyle, who represented Brighton Kemptown from 2017 until last year, has been the star guest on the hard right channel’s weekday evening shows an astounding 23 times since the start of January, more than anybody else.

Rats in a Sack was scratching its chin at why Russell-Moyle, barely a household name in his own household, was ahead of such GB News favourites as Rupert Lowe and Kwasi Kwarteng, other than the fact he doesn’t seem to like Keir Starmer very much.

But now he’s been in contact to explain – he’s doing it to fight the good fight!

“When I started appearing on GB News, I asked the Labour Party if they wanted me to go on or not and they replied that they needed a voice and, as I had been a leading Remainer and one of the plaintiffs in the Millar-Cherry case – and famously both lifted the mace and physically tried to stop Johnson’s’ illegal prorogation – I was the right person to oppose what they stood for,” he says, slightly misusing the word “famously”. “Going into the lions’ den!

“I hope that we’re continuously able to put an argument around how Brexit has been a disaster and about how it hasn’t worked, and the constant feedback that I get is that when GB News viewers – of which are more than for most programmes on Sky News – listen to alternative voices, they can be brought away from the brink of the rather dangerous views espoused by the right.”

So there you go – he’s winning over GB News viewers to the Rejoin cause, one by one! And to be fair to him, even if that is the literal rate, such is the channel’s lowly viewership, he should have convinced them all by Christmas.
