Andrea Jenkyns, the Tory turncoat running as Reform’s candidate for the Greater Lincolnshire mayoralty, is crying foul about a BBC stitch-up – after the broadcaster ran an interview in which it, er, asked her questions and allowed her to answer them.

Jenkyns, a short-lived education minister under Boris Johnson and Liz Truss, was quizzed by Look North’s Peter Levy in an interview in which she tied herself up in knots over the climate crisis, denied being a career politician despite having been an MP for most of the last decade and then spent the last 30 seconds moaning about the BBC.

Now she’s taken to social media with dark murmurings from “a very good authority” the Beeb had been “trying to stir things” to block Reform’s inevitable march to power!

Asked by Levy the simple question of whether she believed in climate change, Jenkyns rambled: “Do I believe…? Look, I’ll always try… look, I’m a vegetarian, I’ll always try and protect animals where I can and… but I just think it’s got bonkers, to be honest with you and… it’s actually become an industry now – look at what we only saw today, Dale Vince, their biggest donor, is now selling it on, so…”.

After struggling with the final question – where Levy bamboozled her with the ever-tricky “Why should you be mayor of Lincolnshire?” – Jenkyns threw her arms in the air and claimed “the BBC have been ringing around candidates today to try and stir things for Reform”. Jenkyns has since posted a video to social media condemning the BBC’s nefariousness, saying she’d been “flabbergasted” by the questioning.

Jenkyns also used the video to rubbish claims apparently being made by one rival that she is not local to Lincolnshire. It is rather unfortunate, then, that it ends with the credit ‘Published by D. Landymore on behalf of Andrea Jenkyns both at 124 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX’.
