Musk’s u-turn leaves Julia Hartley-Brewer in a tizz

The X owner's call for Nigel Farage to step down reminded the hardline Brexiteer she did have an aversion to foreign involvement in British politics after all

TalkRadio motormouth Julia Hartley-Brewer was delighted way back in December 2024 when it was mooted Elon Musk might be donating some of his fortune to Nigel Farage’s Reform party.

“He doesn’t just want to send rockets to Mars, he wants to put rocket boosters up the British political establishment, too,” she quivered in her Sun column.

“The tech titan doesn’t just have money to offer. He also has campaigning expertise to offer Farage and his deputy Richard Tice after playing a key role for the Republicans in swing states in the latest US election.

“Musk and Farage also have a lot in common. Both men are disruptors who enjoy shaking things up and ruffling feathers. The political landscape has never been more fertile for a third party to grow and blossom.”

Fast forward to this weekend though and, following Musk questioning whether her hero Farage should remain leader of Reform, hardline Brexiteer Hartley-Brewer suddenly remembered she did have an aversion to foreign involvement in British politics after all.

“Really not sure why Elon Musk thinks it’s his business to tell British political parties who their leaders should be or, indeed, to demand a new UK general election just months after the last one,” she harrumphed on Musk’s own platform, X.

“Power has gone to his head even before Trump takes office. This won’t end well.”

It will not!
