Could Boris Johnson follow in the footsteps of fellow Brexiteer Jacob Rees-Mogg and become the subject of his own a fly-on-the-wall reality show?
According to the Sun, both Channel 4 and Netflix are interested in following the former PM around despite the speedy cancellation of Rees-Mogg’s little-watched Discovery+ series, Meet the Rees-Moggs.
A ‘source’ told the paper: “Meet The Rees-Moggs was generally well-received when it aired a few weeks ago on Discovery+, and Boris even got several name checks in that series. So producers have clearly adopted the nothing-ventured-nothing-gained approach and contacted the former premier on the off chance he might go for it.
“It just goes to show how, more than two years after leaving Downing Street, there’s still huge interest in BoJo.”
If either broadcaster does sign up Johnson, though, they’d be well-advised to make sure the contract’s watertight. It was in October 2023 that he announced, with much fanfare, that he’d joined GB News as a regular contributor.
“I’m gonna be giving this remarkable new TV channel my unvarnished views on everything from Russia, China, the war in Ukraine, how we meet all those challenges, to the huge opportunities that lie ahead for us,” he said back then. Yet more than 14 months on from the announcement, Johnson has yet to make an appearance.
