One of the BBC’s biggest primetime stars has described Brexit as a “disaster” and urged Keir Starmer to get on his “bended knees” to ask to be allowed back in the EU – and this time it’s not Gary Lineker.
Lord Sugar, star of The Apprentice, has told BBC Breakfast Britain’s departure from the bloc was “the biggest disaster” of his lifetime.
The crossbench peer told the programme: “The biggest disaster in my lifetime was us leaving the European Union. The full ramifications of us not being in the European Union are starting to really take its toll.
“If I was the prime minister I would be coming along on my bended knees and asking to be allowed back in. It’s all to do with trade, free trade, small people, small traders. You can’t ship goods abroad now, it’s very complicated. It’s a terrible situation, a real terrible situation.
“How do we get out of it? My real honest opinion – get back in the EU.”
The outspoken comments have already provoked fury on X by noted experts in international trade such as, er, Stop Socialist Tyranny, FlappySocks and Chelsea Kev (“Well mate the people of this country voted for it and remoaners like you cannot handle the fact and have the longest sulk in history over it”).
But it remains to be seen whether the usual suspects who have routinely called for Lineker to be sacked from the Beeb turn their ire on Sugar – who, as a successful businessman, might actually know what he’s talking about.
