The Downing Street flat proves good for business

The publicity Lulu Lytle gained by being Boris and Carrie Johnson's interior designer has been good for business

Lulu Lytle may have complained to the Financial Times that she “hated every minute” of working as Boris and Carrie Johnson’s interior designer at their Downing Street flat – “I found it incredibly disquieting to be caught up in a political storm,” she swooned – but it looks like the publicity has been good for business.

Lytle has just reported £1.2m worth of profits at Soane, her design firm. The company made £779,501 in 2021, and £461,760 in 2020. Soane was set up in 1997 and counts Lulu as its largest shareholder. It retained £2.8m in earnings.

Her work will sadly not be enjoyed by the Sunaks, who, quite possibly because of it, chose to move into the smaller flat above No 10 rather than the more spacious one over No 11 where the Johnsons resided.
