After I wrote the other week about Sir Ed Davey’s modest family firm Energy Destinations, I learn that the management consultancy business has been put into liquidation by the Lib Dem leader’s wife, Emily Gasson, who owns and manages it. This is not, however, going to propel the Daveys into the kind of wealth bracket currently occupied by the Cleggs.
A declaration of solvency drawn up earlier this month show a likely payout of £103,000 – hardly enough to cover a couple of hours’ work for Sir Nick Clegg, who stepped down as Lib Dem leader to work for megabucks at Facebook. His shareholdings in the firm – now called Meta – amount to more than £19m.
