Boris Johnson’s fellow old Etonian Sir Bill Wiggin has been holding forth lately about how the government was helping the country through the cost-of-living crisis. The North Herefordshire MP is, however, unlikely to be feeling the pinch.
Supplementing his parliamentary salary of £84,144, he has for the past seven years been managing director of the Bermuda-based Emerging Asset Management and, since 2016, director of two “fund platforms” in the Cayman Islands and two in Bermuda. Wiggins has just updated the register of members’ interests to show he trousered director’s fees of £26,650.44 for being a director of five platforms from January to December 2022.
He also managed to find the time for a freebie trip to Qatar, which he reckoned was worth £5,400. His household also benefits from more than £10,000 a year of rental income from a property in London.
