Sarah Vine, the Daily Mail columnist, would never appear to have heeded Robert Burns when he lamented how seldom we can see ourselves the way that others see us.
So she cheerfully ripped into Meghan Markle – public enemy number one as far as the Mail is concerned after she won her legal actions against them – accusing her of being a “weapons-grade narcissist” for, among other offences, daring to wear a black turtleneck similar to one worn by the late Diana, Princess of Wales.
One could, of course, talk about how Michael Gove’s former wife has lately undergone Botox treatments and more recently attended a clinic to receive a “thread lift” – a lunchtime facelift that involves inserting fine threads under the skin of the face – because she wasn’t happy how she’d looked on a TV chat show alongside Holly Willoughby.
It would, however, be quite ungallant. I’ll merely say that it’s quite an achievement, given how often and outspokenly she tweets and all the projection that the Mail gives her, that she still only has around 40,000 followers on Twitter. Meghan Markle isn’t such a narcissist that she even feels the need to be on Twitter.
