Everyone at The New European was saddened to learn of the death of Raz Woollacott, one of our co-owners and subscribers, after a short fight with motor neurone disease. He was 74.
Raz, who lived in Norfolk, will be remembered as a giant of a man – he was 6ft 6 – who was a tireless campaigner against Brexit and in support of Greenpeace and Friends Of The Earth, among other causes.
He ran a bicycle repair shop in his efforts to promote sustainability and opened a health food store in a deprived area of Norwich in his efforts to bring affordable healthy food to a wider community. With Ukrainian roots – his grandparents left the country to settle in London in 1905 – he was recently a fundraiser for refugees from Putin’s invasion.
Raz is survived by his wife Laura and children Frankie and Ruby.
