I’m taking a backseat next week as editor-in-chief, handing over the job of editing your favourite newspaper to a man I think it’s safe to say we have all come to admire, Feargal Sharkey.
Feargal has campaigned tirelessly for years to bring the issue of our filthy waterways to the front pages. Well, now he’s got his own front page to play with.
Next week’s New European is a very special issue – guest edited by Feargal and focussing squarely on the appalling state of Britain’s rivers and waterways, flooded as they are with sewage – the result of an absolute scandal of our times; the privatisation of the water companies.
Why now? We’re producing the special edition to coincide with the the March For Clean Rivers that Feargal has organised for November 3. Tens of thousands will be marching in central London, demanding action. We’re delighted to be playing a small part.
It’s going to be an utterly brilliant edition. You will be astounded and appalled at the level of incompetence and greed that has brought us to this sorry state. But there are heroic stories too – of those who refused to put up with this, and I mean this quite literally, sh!t.
There’s also a raft a excellent cultural features too, specially commissioned by Feargal himself.
Don’t miss out – secure your copy by clicking here. And we will include a special A3 poster to commemorate the day of this historic march.
