A clip appearing to show Scottish National Party MP Joanna Cherry swearing about the Labour Party has ignited a storm on Twitter.

A clip appearing to show Scottish National Party MP Joanna Cherry swearing at the Labour Party as her motion failed to gain a majority has ignited a storm on Twitter.

The footage captures the moment that speaker John Bercow announced Cherry’s motion to revoke Article 50 had failed to gain a majority in the Commons on Wednesday evening, with 293 MPs voting down the proposal.

As the camera switches from Bercow to the SNP MP, she can be seen shaking her head in frustration and appearing to mouth ‘f*****g Labour.’

The short clip has gathered over 140,900 views on Twitter, with more than 5,000 likes and nearly 2,000 retweets.

SNP member Alexandra McArthur shared the footage, captioning it: ‘Tonight we are all Joanna Cherry. My sentiments exactly.’

However some Twitter users debated the lip-reading of ‘Labour’, with one commenting: ”F****** shambles.’ How does everyone lip-read ‘Labour’?’

Another added: ‘I heard ‘F****** Cameron”.

Cherry’s motion called for a Commons vote on whether or not to accept a no-deal outcome if no exit plan has been approved by parliament.

It has been suggested that Labour leadership told their MPs to abstain on the vote, despite a number of the party’s MPs being co-signatories on the motion.

Following the vote, Cherry took to Twitter to thank the Labour MPs who voted in favour, writing: ‘Thanks to all 184 MPs who voted for my RevokeArt50 to avoid No Deal motion especially the 111 UK Labour MPs who supported it.’
