Barwell’s burgeoning bottom line

Lord Gavin Barwell, Theresa May’s unprepossessing chief of staff during her Downing Street years, has just reported a £210,000 profit for the year to October 31, 2021 at his eponymous consulting outfit.

The company provides “advice on current affairs and UK public policy, specialising in housing”, according to his declaration in the Register of Lords’ Interests. He also serves as a trustee of The Barratt Developments PLC charitable foundation. No word as yet on royalties for his awful book, Chief of Staff, which actually had a chapter that kicked off with the overused cliche about “events, dear boy”.

May needn’t ever worry about him eclipsing her on the earnings front: she has just reported a £76,000 payday for a four-hour speaking engagement for Deutsche Bank.
